I do want to be starting something, Mr. Jackson, I really do. And that something is this blog once again.
My, oh my, it has been quite some time, hasn't it? Too much time, I feel. So here goes...
I have decided to start this site up again. I will be using this blog to write about my many adventures into the music industry. This could include show/concert reviews, what I'm up to personally in the music industry, me rambling about something cool I learned about, maybe I'm geeking out about a new song I discovered...Who even knows.
To bring the world up to speed on my life, I am currently, this second doing very little directly in the music industry, but that is about to change.
I am singing in a 90s cover band called The Damn Skippies. We are very fun people. When we have an established website, recordings, etc, I'm sure I'll be posting about it. But until then, let the mystery simmer.
I have an interview at Universal Music Group in Minneapolis on Friday morning. I am very excited. I'm nervous too, however, for a couple of reasons. First of all, I haven't had to really interview for anything for almost two years. Second, I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO WEAR. Ugh. I swore two years ago that I would never again have a job that required me to wear those loathsom khakis and so they no longer exist in my wardrobe. I also do not own black pants...What's a girl to do?
The Decibel, the campus newspaper I relaunched and am the editor in cheif of at McNally Smith College of Music, is going to be taking off again soon. We're going to have a huge online presense this year with blogs and possibly a website. I'm hoping, with the help of my sidekick Caitie, we'll get my precious baby up and running before I graduate in the spring.
In January, hopefully, I will be at an internship in San Diego, California. I have been living in the Midwest and only the Midwest my entire life. I think it is time for me to get out and learn how life is in other parts of the country. Not just music life, but life in general. As far as the internship is concerned, I will be crashing with my fantastic aunt and uncle Diane and Milt. I'm so stoked.
I'm really hoping to get out of the US for awhile as well. With any luck the job that I eventually end up with in the music industry will allow me to do that - travel. I just want to travel. Sure, sitting on a plane for 9 hours is a pain, but man...when you get off that plane, where that plane is taking you? That's the adventure. I am very excited to get started with my life post-graduation.
That is all I have for now. Hopefully soon I will have more to post.
Keep on rocking in the free world -
J.
